Ultramax Lithium Battery Review (LiFePO4)

Here it is, our Ultramax Lithium Battery Review. Prices for Lithium batteries have come down a lot recently, and this Ultramax is the one of the lowest cost ones out there.

We’ve talked on this site about how purchasing a Lithium battery now works out much cheaper, as long as you can afford the initial investment, you’ll end up paying half, a third, even a quarter of your total outlay if you bought a normal lead acid battery or AGM.

Is this one any good? That’s what we’ll look at in this review.

Ultramax Lithium (LiFePO4) Battery – The Lowdown

Let’s take a look at what the Ultramax LiFePO4 battery offers – what’s good and what’s not so good.

As we’ve said, it’s an LiFePO4 battery, great for leisure use, like motorhomes, caravans, campervans and suchlike. Or indeed for solar applications.

Ultramax Lithium Battery Review

Let’s check out what we liked and what didn’t we like about these LiFePO4 batteries.

What’s good?

Where we break down the aspects we liked.

The type of Lithium is LiFePO4

This is crucial. A few years ago, Lithium batteries had safety issues but LiFePO4 is fantastically safe – actually it’s safer than normal lead-acid batteries.

LiFePO4, by the way, is the fancy, chemical way of saying Lithium Iron Phosphate.

It has a Battery Management System

This is also vital and is tied to the previous point about safety.

In your Lithium battery, you need to choose one with these two things: 1) the type of Lithium if LiFePO4, and 2) It has a BMS (Battery Management System).

What does this do? It monitors every cell to make sure its voltage is not too high or too low. As a result, the cells cannot become under-charged or overcharged and so always remain in a safe condition.

UK Manufacturer

That is, the company that makes them is a UK-based company. They’re made in China, as is the case with 99% of Lithium batteries.

That the make is in the UK gives you a decent amount of peace of mind – you get good after sales service with Ultramax Lithium batteries.

And that brings us to…

One Year Warranty

You get a one year warranty. And the fact that it’s a UK supplier also makes that warranty easier to claim on than if it was an uncontactable foreign company.

A one year warranty is the industry standard for a Lithium battery. Though its unlikely you’ll have to use it with an Ultramax battery. LiFePO4 batteries with a quality BMS very rarely have issues, as long as the supplier is a reliable one using quality materials.

It’s Lightweight

At 13.8kg, it’s around one third of the weight of an equivalent 100Ah lead acid or AGM battery. And a fair bit smaller.

That’s just a heck of a lot easier to deal with in all aspects of using the battery – installation, any time you’re moving it, reconnecting wires etc.

You definitely want to keep the weight of your vehicle down too, leading to less strain on the engine to cart everything around, and reducing your fuel costs.

Very Long Lasting

It’s an LiFePO4 battery, with a good BMS. That means you can easily expect 10 years usage and possibly a few more years on top. That’s why we say this battery will end up much cheaper than a standard lead acid or AGM battery.

What’s Not So Good

Where we note the things we didn’t like about the Ultramax Lithium battery.

There Are Better BMSs Out There

The Ultramax BMS is good, but there are some next gen BMSs out there which have super advanced features, like over charging, over-temperature protection as well. Such as the Renogy 100Ah Lithium battery (which tops our Best Lithium Leisure Battery article).

Other Batteries May Last Longer

Batteries like the Renogy 100Ah one have excellent quality components, and highly advanced BMSs that keep the battery in tiptop shape. The Fogstar Lithium battery is another one with a large number of expected life cycles (check out our Fogstar Battery Review)

That said, you’re still highly likely to get a lot longer out of this Ultramax battery than you will out of any AGM or typical lead acid battery.

Ultramax Lithium Battery Review Summary

The Ultramax LiFePO4 battery is one of the best out there. It’s one of the breakthrough batteries in this market, since it provides a quality BMS, LiFePO4 battery and at a low price.

A UK maker, one year warranty and being lightweight are the other aspects to raise this battery above so many others.

That said, we do know of a couple of other batteries on the market with which you can expect longer lifespan and even more safety features.

That’s it for our Ultramax Lithium battery review. Good luck with your decision!
